Youth Programs
Youth Golf
At The Legacy at Hastings, we believe guiding and coaching the next generation of youth golfers is crucial as it not only cultivates new talent and ensures the future of the sport, but also instills important life skills such as discipline, integrity, and sportsmanship in young individuals. By investing in their development, we are not just nurturing future golf champions, but also contributing to the growth of well-rounded, confident, and responsible members of society.
While we have offered youth golf opportunities for more than 15 years, we officially partnered with the Barry County Junior Golf Association in 2020. The Barry County Junior Golf Association offers young golfers a unique blend of learning, playing, and growing in the game of golf. The foundation provides specialized youth programs that focus on skill development, ensuring that each young golfer can advance at their own pace while fostering a lifelong love for the sport. Youth get the unique opportunity to be coached by a Michigan Golf Hall of Famer, Lynn Janson and PGA Professional Jock Hopkins! Both experienced instructors are passionate about introducing the fundamentals of golf to beginners and refining the techniques of more advanced young players. Above all, The Legacy at Hastings provides a youth-oriented environment emphasizing fun and enjoyment, creating memorable experiences that instill a deep appreciation for golf that lasts a lifetime.
PGA Junior League
PGA Jr. League is a fun, social, game-changing opportunity for boys and girls ages 17 and under to learn and play the game of golf. Since 2012, The Legacy at Hastings has been hosting the local Barry County PGA Jr. League program on the course. The Barry County PGA Jr. League brings both beginner and advanced youth and their families around a team format with expert coaching from Michigan Golf Hall of Famer, Lynn Janson and PGA Professional Jock Hopkins. Youth are instructed in groups throughout the week on swing techniques, short-game drills, and the basics of competitive golf. Then on the weekends, they break into their teams and play in competition on the course. The winning team gets the exciting opportunity to play in one of 12 Regionals held across the country! Since 2012, the program has flourished, it has grown from 12 players to over 50!
THANK YOU to the four amazing corporate sponsors who help this program flourish each year and sponsor their own youth team: Tripp, Tagg & Storrs Attorneys at Law, Cedar Creek Machinists Training, Kloosterman's Sports Tap & Grille, and Hastings Fiberglass!
In addition, we want to say THANK YOU to a multitude of local patrons, course members, and community supporters who also generously donate to this program to provide the youth with fun events, games, and more!
YMCA Summer Youth Golf Program
Our course is also proud to host the YMCA of Barry County's Summer youth golf program. This program instructs youth 6-14 year olds through beginning techniques of learning golf, understanding the greens, and then expanding their knowledge to full swing abilities and golf etiquette.
This program typically runs during the month of June and is held during the days of Monday & Wednesday weekly. Youth can bring their own clubs or visit our Pro Shop to sign-out rental sets.
